Summary

Have some knowledge on how the artisans do their masterpieces in Triana. Visit a pottery workshop and try painting your own pottery and tile under the supervision of a skilled local artisan. Then you will also join a workshop about gold-leaf techniques.

Meeting Point: Your hotel in Seville

Departure Time: 9:30 am or 5:00 pm

Itinerary

Located across the Guadalquivir river from Old Town Seville, the quarter of Triana has been the home of bullfighters, flamenco dancers, fishermen and artisans!

Start with an introductory walk from your hotel to the heart of Triana and along the way, you will understand why the aforementioned minorities settled down there and how they started to call the attention of the wealthiest classes of Seville.

You will visit a pottery workshop where you will be explained briefly the different techniques of tile-making that have been used in Seville since the Moorish times. After this short introduction, you will be given your own tile to paint under the supervision of a skilled local potter. Every member of the group will be called to the pottery wheel, where another skilled local artisan will assist them while they make their own piece of pottery in the wheel that they will be able to take home that day if they like (alternatively and at a separate cost, the piece can be shipped once it is baked).

After this hands-on experience, you will be taken to the workshop of a gilder and there you will be explained all about the gold-leaf techniques that have been used and are still used in Seville mostly in religious art. This two visits will give you an appreciation of how important handcrafts have been and still are in Seville. Then, after all this and surely hungry, you will be taken on a tapas lunch in Triana and finally you will be escorted back to your hotel.
