Summary

Catch sight of the breathtaking sceneries in Asturias from its rugged coast and white sandy beaches to its wild valleys and mountains. Enjoy an 8-day cycling adventure, pedalling along very quiet country roads. Explore the Picos de Europa National Park, ride the thrilling Fuente Dé cable car, visit tiny villages, and enjoy the wonderful beaches of Asturias at the end of the trip. Stay in a lovely, family-run, rural accommodation.

Itinerary

Day 1, Arrival to Aguilar de Campoo
Arrival and a chance to explore your hotel (a former monastery) and the medieval town of Aguilar de Campoo. Among its most attractive sights is the arcaded square, where you will find the collegiate church of San Miguel.

Day 2, Aguilar de Campoo to Cervera de Pisuerga - 24 miles (39 km) - Climb: 482 m
Bicycle handover and set off along quiet country roads among rich agricultural land used for the production of cereals. This is an area of unspoilt nature, it has the greatest concentration of Romanesque churches and shrines in Europe. On the route you will discover small villages.

Day 3, Cervera de Pisuerga to Potes - 35 miles (56 km) - Climb: 478 m
Cycling along wonderful countryside first uphill to reach the Piedrasluengas Mountain Pass and then descending for the next 27 kilometres! Today's cycle offers spectacular views of the Picos de Europa National Park from a distance as you approach.

Day 4, Potes - Fuente Dé – Potes - 29 miles (46 km) - Climb: 831 m
Today's cycle is a short but hard climb in the morning and returning all downhill in the afternoon. At the top of the climb, you will have a chance to get on an incredible cable car in Fuente Dé, taking you up 753 metres to a height of 1823 m. At the the top, enjoy a coffee in the clouds!

Day 5, Potes to Arenas de Cabrales - 29 miles (47 km) - Climb: 189 m
Today's cycle is also spectacular. You will cycle through the Hermida Gorge, an impressive 20 km long ravine offering spectacular views. You will be following the rivers Cares and Deva along some of the most scenic routes of the Picos.

Day 6, Arenas de Cabrales – Bulnes – Arenas de Cabrales - 8 miles cycle and 5 miles walk (13 km cycle & 8 km walk)  - Climb: 411 m
Today's itinerary involves cycling with some walking. After cycling up to Puente Poncebos only 7.5 kms away from your hotel, you have the option of taking a funicular, a tunnel railway that climbs over 2 km inside the mountain to the isolated mountain hamlet of Bulnes, which is inaccessible by road. You can choose to walk back down or take the train again.

Day 7, Arenas de Cabrales to Llanes - 22 miles (36 km)  - Climb: 685 m
One final cycling day along small country roads to leave the mountains behind and discover very pretty countryside and small villages on your way to the seaside town of Llanes and its lively port and beaches.

Day 8, Departure
Your tour ends. Depart from Llanes or take some extra nights in Llanes to enjoy the beach or return.
